New Collaborations and Competitions

VA team up with OMA and Werner Sobek in Helsinki and Diller Scofidio + Renfro in Stockholm

 

After our collaboration with Diller Scofidio + Renfro on the Munch+Stenersen Museum in Oslo, we are continuing our relationship by applying for the New Crematorium at the Woodland Cemetary competition. The City of Stockholm announced the competition for a new crematorium that will complement Gunnar Asplund's world-famous Woodland Crematorium from 1940. The new building will house an updated cremation facility, whereas the existing Asplund building will continue as the setting for ceremonial services. The team also includes landscape architects from Radar Arkplan in Gøteborg who we have previously worked together with on the Wroclaw Contemporary Museum, and the Schiphol Sound Barrier. Five teams will be invited to participate in the competition.

 

Various Architects are also teaming up with OMA and Werner Sobek to prequalify for the Low2No sustainable development design competition in Helsinki, Finland. The goal of the competition will be to create a new strategy for sustainable urban development that can be applied to Vuosaari Harbour, the city's old cargo terminal area. Five teams will be selected for the competition, with an initial two-day workshop in Helsinki and a four week development period in June.

 

Slightly closer to home, we are still awaiting word on the new Førde Town Hall competition, which we have applied for in collaboration with Fortunen architects in Bergen. We are also collaborating with Fortunen in an application for the New Hokksund School design competition.

 

The choice of projects and collaboration partners above demonstrate the varying scales and programs in which we are comfortable working.
